Teru Talk by Michael
Theroux (pronounced
"Terú")
Teru's Trash Talk
In
chasing Waste Conversion,
we spend a lot of time
trying to peek around
corners. There are useful
methods and technologies
for turning goo into gold
scattered all around the
globe. It's just not as
easy to spot 'em in eastern
India or the UAE, where
actual press releases are a
rarity and English
certainly isn't the First
Language. But oh, our
readers! The Teru Talk
Global Family feeds us all
sorts of interesting
tid-bits, and having eyes
on the foreign ground
really does help. Not that
Tales from the Field come
ready to post, it still
means tracking over time,
sometimes years, before we
figure out the Who, What,
and Where. Yet the most
important piece still is
trying to grab the end of
the string, the start of
the story, and that's where
our readers really make a
difference. "Hey! Look at
this … now, whaddaya think
of THAT!" is always a
welcome incoming
message.
It’s a
bright clear Northern
California day, but still,
those sandy beaches of
Costa Rica are awfully
enticing. A reader's
high-sign brought the
Safari Surf School to our
attention this week as they
crowd-source funding for
their on-site kitchen
grease to bus safari bus
biofuel project. When they
get the bugs worked out,
they want to post the plans
for their biodiesel module
on-line, for free. Happy
people, making a Business
out of being responsible
for their own waste and
energy; gotta love it. Now,
if they'll start up a small
AD unit for all those food
scraps … always something
else we can learn to do, it
seems.
We also
get seriously encouraged
when our neighboring
regions tackle the tough
decisions and make Real
Progress figuring out Waste
Conversion, from the
bucket-scale project of a
Costa Rican surf school to
the 400+ acre Integrated
Green Park in central Ohio
now under development.
Whether you're working on
one relatively simple yet
crucial waste to biofuel
conversion or starting to
tie everything together to
convert essentially all of
a region's waste back to
goods, the need is high and
the tools are available.
And the more we can see
what other good folks are
doing, the more likely we
are to not feel so Lone
Ranger-ish.
That's
the core premise of Teru
Talk: keep hunting down the
real world examples of a
global circular economy,
wag 'em under as many noses
as possible and get
Everyone thinking
Conversion instead of
Disposal.
Hey
Rube!
Wherever you are located around
this wet blue globe, there's
bound to be a need to stop
Trashing and start Converting.
Take the time to chat about
what might be accomplished in
your neighborhood, your region,
your state, your country. Watch
for those bold soldiers out
there on the front lines of
Waste Conversion (many these
days truly are Soldiers) and
help us shine a bit more light
on their entrepreneurial
exercises. Come on; it gets
lonely out there and it is
reassuring to know people of
common heart and mind are
noticing.
