Teru Talk by Michael
Theroux (pronounced
"TerĂº")
Teru's Trash Talk
Perhaps
our most precious resource
is one we all waste. There
is no area of our life that
is not touched by this form
of waste, and try as we
might, we cannot stop
wasting it. We can only
hope to avoid the damage
and reduce the loss. We all
waste Time.
When it
comes to exacting an impact
on our very existence,
wasting Time ranks right up
there with the
unconscionable crime of
illegal dumping, or "fly
tipping" as the Brits call
it. In fact, wasting time
is a LOT like dumping; some
amount is bound to just get
lost, and more is sure to
get blown away when little
thought is given to keeping
things tidy. If you don't
pay attention to where the
time goes, it just seems to
slip away.
But
that's not really the Crime
here. After all, we all
need some Time off. The
problem begins to get bad
when we know that something
needs to be done, and we
fiddle around,
procrastinating. But the
real problem comes
when there is a clear and
present need to act in a
Timely manner, and this is
met with obstinate refusal.
The amount of precious Time
wasted is compounded when
there is a conscious effort
to block others from
getting that needed work
accomplished, because of
some ill-conceived
contrarian attitude,
because of a lack of care,
of worse yet, because of
small-minded and deeply
vested self
interest.
That's
right where we are now dear
readers, when it comes to
developing and actually
implementing broad-reaching
programs of resource
recovery through the clean
conversion of waste to
energy, fuels, and other
commodities. We have the
tools, we have the
know-how, and we darn sure
have enough garbage. The
problem is the Politic. We
as a society, delegate
responsibility to our
supposed leaders with the
rightful expectation of
timely action. Those placed
in power seem to lack an
honest accountability for
the use of Time and that
just results in more wasted
Resources.
I know, I know; this Wasted
Time thing applies to every
aspect of our world, so
where does a person begin?
But then, we all need to
pick our battles. We at
Teru Talk are convinced
that there is a pressing
need to spur our Elected,
Appointed and Anointed
Leaders toward, sane and
timely support for
recovery of resources from
the Tsunami of Trash
through clean,
technology-neutral
conversion of waste. In
these days of Instant
Information, "I didn't
know" is a pitiful excuse
for inaction. Problem is,
when we scratch the surface
we find that everyone has
an agenda, and this applies
to those in leadership
positions, perhaps more
than others. We have a
revolving door of
individuals charged with
specific duties, among
which are those associated
with resource recovery. The
Time they waste is OUR
time, and those are OUR
resources!
Hey
Rube!
I
think I worked up a sweat with
that diatribe. Yet when faced
with key agency place-holders
who continue to stall and
hardly even make excuses any
more, I have to ask if my own
silence is at least part of the
problem. So here's a Loud
Message for those in leadership
positions:
Waste No
More of the Public's
Time.
Implement
Clean, Sane,
Technology-Neutral Waste
Conversion
for
Resource Recovery
NOW.
